Sherryl Smith Pond, Founder and Artistic Director
Sherryl Pond founded the Woodlands Boys Choir in the fall of 2015. She has worked with children’s choirs during much of her career as a church musician. She is also Organist-Choirmaster and Lead Pastor of Traditional Music of HopePointe Anglican Church in The Woodlands, which sponsors the Woodlands Boys Choir.
Sherryl holds a Bachelor of Music in church music and a Bachelor of Music Education in secondary vocal music (magna cum laude) and a Master of Music in Organ Performance from Texas Christian University; she studied organ in Germany under a Fulbright Grant. She has performed organ recitals in the U.S. as well as internationally, and produced several highly acclaimed recordings. She has served on the music faculties of Sam Houston State University and Dartmouth College, where she was Artist-in-Residence, College Organist, and Senior Lecturer in Music for many years. She teaches organ on the music faculty of Lone Star College. Sherryl is also an attorney, licensed in Texas, and practiced law in Rhode Island for 15 years before moving back to Texas in 2012. Sherryl is married to Dennis and has three grown children, one grandchild, and three dogs.
Austin Hunt, Director of the Tour Choir
Mr. Hunt is known for developing award-winning programs for young voices. His choirs sing with beauty, power, and expressive range.
Presently, Mrs. Hunt is beginning his first year as a Choir Director at Grantham Middle School in Aldine ISD. His directing resume also includes three years with Tom Cox Intermediate in Conroe ISD, where the choir was named “Grand Champion” of the Conroe Choral Festival and “Best in Festival” at the American Classic Choral Competition. Mr. Hunt began his teaching career in Spring ISD at Wells Middle School.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Hunt has been active in music ministry. Currently, he leads worship for the contemporary services at Kingwood Christian Church. Prior to that, he served as Music Director of Spring Woods UMC and Music Associate at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Recently, Mr. Hunt began writing choral music for the sacred setting, with his piece “At the Dawn” debuted by the Choral Scholars of St. Paul’s UMC.
As a vocal artist, Mr. Hunt’s experiences include singing the role of Tamino in The Magic Flute with Sam Houston State University, multiple seasons with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus, and Messiah with The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra. Specializing in art music, he has offered numerous vocal recitals throughout the Houston area, including a benefit concert alongside world-renowned soprano Melanie Holliday.
Mr. Hunt holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Sam Houston State University. He loves to fly, play tennis, and spend time with his wife, Adaluz.
Zachary Musick, Accompanist
Zachary Musick is the Assistant Music Director at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Spring, Texas, and has been accompanying for the Woodlands Boys Choir since 2015. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston’s Moore’s School of Music with membership in the Honors College, a bachelor of music in organ performance, and a cumulative GPA of 4.0. His career as a professional musician is just beginning, and his creative mind is always at work: be it on his writings, his art, or his music.
